W3 - Professorship in Vegetation Ecology, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics
Delivery Deadline: 06.03.2024 23:59
We strive for universality, diversity and interdisciplinarity. With more than 28,000 students, three Clusters of Excellence, 5,000 members of staff, over 150 institutes and an outstanding infrastructure, Leibniz University Hannover offers an innovative environment for top-level education and research in a comprehensive range of subjects.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting asap:
Professorship (m/f/d) inVegetation Ecology, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics
The Position
- The focus of the professorship, which will be located in the newly established Institute of Earth System Sciences (IESW) at LUH, will be on the study of plant biodiversity across spatial and temporal scales and levels of organization, investigating the understanding of patterns, processes and mechanisms of vegetation dynamics as well as biodiversity and ecosystems in global change.
- In research and teaching, the professorship deals with the implementation of classical field research-based geobotany, functional ecology and plant and landscape genetics with the integration of modern monitoring methods. The applications explicitly target the sustainable human-environment relationships named in the Leopoldina Future Report within the framework of Earth System Sciences and map the biotic interactions. This should make it possible to realise synergies and explore new paths together in cooperation with researchers at the IESW as well as colleagues from plant research at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and landscape ecology at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences and non-university research institutions as partners of the IESW.
- High-ranking publications in the above-mentioned fields and successful acquisition of third-party funding in relevant funding formats are prerequisites.
- Extensive teaching experience must be evidenced by relevant evaluations. Future teaching activities are expected in the fields of vegetation ecology, geobotany and systematic botany as well as in practical methods of plant monitoring in various courses of study of the faculty and the neighboring faculty, with a particular focus on the training of student teachers.
Your Profile
The focus of your research work is in the analysis of the structure, dynamics and diversity of vegetation of different types of ecosystems at different scale levels under changing environmental influences in natural and cultural landscapes.
What is expected:
- Scientific excellence (proven by relevant publications, grants or prizes)
- Sound experience in the combination of field and remote sensing-based methods
- Solid experience in the responsible leadership of interdisciplinary working groups
- Proven track record of successfully acquiring third-party funding for inter- and transdisciplinary proposal consortia with partners from different disciplines and entities (universities, AUFs, NGOs)
- Ability to successfully teach in English and German in B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree programmes (incl. teaching degree) and to successfully supervise doctoral students
What is desired:
- Comprehensive field experience in different ecozones and ecosystem types (natural and anthropogenic)
- Interdisciplinary competence and the ability to integrate a high degree of disciplinary diversity (evidence through relevant publications or spokespersonships of corresponding research consortia).
